Hello, October!

Happy October to all you lovely people!

I can now officially go all out with the pumpkin products (as if I haven't been already), cozy sweaters, hot chocolate and lattés, fall decorations...eek! It just makes me so excited. I love love love fall.

I have a few things from September to fill you in on, and I will do my best to keep it fairly short and sweet! (I think we've all learned by now that my version of "short and sweet" usually ends up turning into "long and luscious." Ha!)

Friday, September 12th - Sunday, September 14th I got the amazing opportunity to spend the weekend with my cousin Jake and his friend Tyson in the mountains at Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, CO! Jake's friend has a condo up there that was empty for the weekend, so his family graciously let us use it for the weekend. We arrived Friday evening, played some cards, and then hit the hay. On Saturday we rented mountain bikes and spent a few hours biking in the mountains! We had to bike all the way to the top of the mountain (on a dirt road, kind of boring and grueling) to reach the trails (rocky, much more fun) going back down the mountain. The rocky trails were my favorite part! It's amazing how the mountain bike can just bump over those protruding, jagged rocks as if they were marshmallows. Traveling back down was fun, but it also stressed me out due to the sections of loose gravel, nearly 180 degree turns, and not being able to fully control your speed. I only took a few (manageable) tumbles, which I consider a success for my first time mountain biking!

After nearly four hours of mountain biking, we decided to return our bikes and get some food at The Dust Boot. Jake and Tyson ordered some ridiculously amazing burgers, and I settled for a cherry pepsi to sip on as I had already eaten some leftover sweet potato sausage egg scramble that Tyson whipped up earlier that morning - seriously delicious! We then headed back to the condo to do some relaxing in the hot tub which felt fabulous after a long day of biking. For dinner we ate pizza from a place called the Blue Moose while watching the movie Patch Adams. Overall a super fun day!

I woke up fairly early on Sunday morning and decided to walk to the Starbucks in town. It was a lovely walk with beautiful mountain views - perfect way to start the morning! A little later we went to an LDS church just a couple miles away, and I was surprised to find that a good portion of the songs and messages were delivered in Spanish. My two years of high school Spanish allowed me to pick up a few words here and there, but otherwise it was all wayyy over my head. Thankfully Jake was there to translate, and he filled us in on what was said after the service. :) After church, we headed back home to pack up our things and head out.

This weekend was so much fun, and I am so grateful and blessed to have been able to go and spend time in the mountains with a couple of wonderful people! Oh, and if there's one thing this trip taught me, it's that padded shorts are a MUST for mountain biking...my tush was not happy with me for a few days. Seriously people, invest in padded shorts - your butt will thank you.

As many of you may or may not know, I signed up to run the Hot Chocolate 15k this coming Sunday, October 5th. I have never run more than 7 miles in my life, and that was months ago. I ran 5 miles a few weeks ago, but I decided that I needed to fit in one more solid run before tackling this race. On Saturday, September 20th, I set out for a run with the hopes of at least getting in 7-8 miles. I surprised myself by running a full 9 miles, which is definitely a new personal best! A 15k is 9.33 miles, so I think I should be set for the race this weekend! *Fingers crossed*. I am excited to pick up my race packet tomorrow!
Sushi with Amanda

On Sunday, September 21st, I met my friend Amanda for Sushi at East Moon in Broomfield. I learned a lot from my first sushi experience a couple weeks earlier, so this time I ordered one roll with sweet potato and one roll with shrimp (the exact names are escaping me). The sweet potato roll was delicious and definitely my new favorite! The roll with shrimp in it was ok, but still a bit too fishy for me. Apparently I'm just never going to be a true sushi lover, which I think I'm ok with. After sushi and a run to Target (of course), I headed out to Denver to meet up with Aaron and his friend Jared at Lucky Strikes to watch the Broncos vs. Seahawks football game! It was really nice catching up with Aaron and getting to know Jared, who also happens to be running the Hot Chocolate 15k! Overall, it was a really fun, friend filled day. :)
Day with Talia

I met up with Talia this past Saturday, September 27th in Denver to do some shopping and eat lunch. We got lunch at the Corner Bakery Café, which was really tasty! It was so good seeing her again, and I can't wait until we get to meet up again next month!

On Monday, September 29th, I attended the first portion of the Citizen Fire Academy put on by the local Boulder Rural Fire Department just a short ways down the road. I learned a lot about how the fire department is run day to day, how to become a volunteer/firefighter, how fire works, and more! We also got to see an emergency CPR demonstration and try on all the firefighters equipment! The second portion of the academy is on Saturday, October 11th, and this will be more of a hands on, in the field experience, which I am really looking forward to.

On a more exciting note, today/tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of my move to beautiful Colorado! I left my home in MN on October 1st, and I arrived on the doorstep of my new home in CO on October 2nd! It's amazing how fast a year comes and goes, bringing many ups and downs along with it. Life is definitely a beautiful, yet bumpy ride!

Overall, Colorado has enriched my life in so many different ways, and I am so grateful for Amber, Eric, and Torsten for allowing me the opportunity to move out to Colorado in the first place. They have all done so much for me and I can't thank them enough. I am also so grateful for all the different experiences I've had, and for all of the wonderful people I have met along the way. I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without the amazing support system I have in my life - family, friends, and God. :)

I hope you all have had a spectacular first day of October so far! Here's to a great month filled with too much pumpkin flavored goodies, warm sweaters, beautifully colored leaves, and more!

♥ Jane
