V - Valuable
We live in a world that places a lot of value on our monetary status and material items such as the clothes we wear, the electronics we own, the vehicles we drive, our home furnishings, etc. etc. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with owning expensive, high end things or enjoying the material items we do possess (expensive or not), I feel that they can sometimes make us lose sight of what truly matters in this world…what things are truly valuable.
I’m just a guilty as the next person when it comes to placing a little too much value on the amount of money in my bank account or some of the material items that I own, but I know, without a doubt, that I would trade those items in a heartbeat for the things that I consider truly valuable in life:

The people in my life are by far the most valuable thing in the world to me. The love I feel for my fiancĂ©, Michael, is a love that I can’t even put into words…it’s a love so strong my heart hurts whenever I think of him. I feel a similar love for my parents and brother, my entire family, and my friends. Everyone I’ve ever met means something to me in one way or another, and nothing will ever be more valuable to me than the people in my life.

Spending time with the people I love and/or staying in communication with them is also extremely valuable to me. Conversing with the people in my life, telling my loved ones just how much I love them and how much they mean to me, being together and making memories, giving my grammy a hug at church on Sundays, going wedding dress shopping with my mom, meeting up with a friend for pedicures or coffee, traveling the world with a friend, simply spending time with Michael or playing with our cat together; these are all things that you can’t put a price on but are more valuable than anything else in the world.

I’ve become much more conscious of my health as I’ve get older. The older I got the more I realized I wasn’t invincible, and neither was anybody else. This makes my health, and the health of my loved ones, very valuable to me. Always be grateful for your good health! It’s something that’s very easy to take for granted. Striving to live a healthy lifestyle is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves and our loved ones.

I’m grateful to have been raised to know God, because my relationship with Him has been such a huge blessing in my life. Through all of the difficult, confusing, seemingly unbearable times, God has been with me. Through all of the wonderful, joyous, happy times, God has been with me. It gives me a feeling of contentment knowing that it will always be that way. God is woven into every aspect of our lives, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
As Christmas approaches, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on what is truly valuable in your life. When you’re opening your Christmas presents, make sure you’re cherishing the person who gave you the gift more than the gift itself, and make sure to tell the people in your life that you love them as often as you can. Hold the people in your life closer than your material possessions, cherish every moment you have together, soak it all in, and be grateful for all of the many blessings in your life!

“For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”

“Then he said, ‘Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.’”
—Luke 12:15
“Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’”
—Hebrews 13:5
