NYE | 2014 | Back in CO
Welcome to 2014 everyone!
I hope you all had a fun time ringing in the New Year. :) I made some last minute changes to my NYE plans and ended up going out to the Third Base in Carlton with my friend Holly. The weather that night was really cold (as usual) so I wasn't feeling up to driving all the way to Duluth. The night ended up being a ton of fun! I'm not a big drinker by any means, but I did have a tiny glass of champagne which I managed to sip on periodically throughout the night. I ended up playing some beer pong with my friend John, or champagne pong in my case, and we were undefeated the entire night. Overall, it was a much needed fun night out and it was great seeing familiar faces while I was home. :)
The remainder of my time in Minnesota went by ridiculously fast! I could have sworn I went to bed on Monday night and woke up Friday morning. Of course I didn't start packing until Friday night, the day before I was leaving, but I haven't discovered any forgotten items yet! I was originally scheduled to leave on Friday, but I managed to change my flight to Saturday afternoon so I could attend my uncle Bill's funeral Saturday morning. The service went very well and the pastor gave a nice, meaningful message that I believed helped instill hope and optimism in everyone who attended. There was a luncheon afterwards which was yummy, and it was great hearing all the awesome stories people had to tell about uncle Bill. He was definitely an amazing, one of a kind guy. We left the church around 12:30pm and went to my aunt Pat's house to do some socializing before I needed to catch my flight. I wish I could have frozen time and sat in that kitchen forever talking with my family and loved ones. It's in those simple yet meaningful moments where you kind of just lean back, take in your surroundings, and realize with clarity the bigger picture in life. I made sure to yell out "I love you" numerous times as I was leaving the house and saying my goodbyes.
I arrived at the airport a little after 2:00pm and got in the insanely long bag check line for Southwest. My flight was originally schedule to leave at 3:55pm, but due to weather conditions it was delayed until 4:25pm, which I was ok with. I rather have an abundance of time than be short on time. This trip to the airport definitely confirmed my preference for extremely early flights or extremely late flights. Any flight that allows me to avoid the hustle and bustle of the airport in the middle of the day. There's just something about it that is unnerving and unpleasant, especially when you're alone. Anyways...I went and found my gate then proceeded to charge my phone to kill some time. I then bought some coffee at Caribou and went to find my gate, which ended up changing. Lots of flights were delayed due to weather, so it was a lot of waiting around. The flight went fairly smoothly; a little bumps here and there, but nothing roller coaster crazy. The decent was interesting because w
e went from chasing the sunset to being submerged in clouds and snow, but we managed to land safely. Went through the necessary hassle of finding the baggage claim, getting my bags, then finding the bus to take me back to Boulder. Ended up talking to a nice guy on the bus ride home, so that helped pass the time. He's a senior at CU and lives with his girlfriend in Boulder. He offered to exchange numbers and let me know if they ever go out, so maybe I'll get to meet some potential new friends eventually.
This Sunday has been a lazy Sunday morning so far...I was going to go to bible study at church, but when I woke up the last thing I wanted to do was defrost a snow covered car in 10° weather. I decided to do a few of my own devotions and hopefully I'll get to go to Wesley fellowship tonight. The rest of my day is devoted to unpacking, organizing things for the coming week, and other odds and ends.
I hope everyone is enjoying the new year so far and making some awesome resolutions and plans. Oh, and for all of you reading this back in Minnesota...stay warm!! Drink coffee, hot cocoa, or tea, curl up next to a fireplace or space heater, and do everything you can to avoid the cold!
