Dancing, Llamas, and Jump Squats

The title of this blog contains just a few of the activities and attractions that I encountered this past weekend. Intrigued? Well then by all means, continue reading! Not impressed? Feel free to return to whatever pressing matter it was that you were attending to just moments before you decided to click on this link.

Just after work on Friday, March 27th, I packed an overnight bag, filled my mason jar with a Monster coffee energy drink, and headed to Denver to attend my very late birthday party. My super duper awesome radical rockin' cousin Jake was kind enough to put the whole party together for me and host it at his apartment! He invited a lot of people, most of which I knew, some of which I didn't, and I also invited a few friends, so we had a pretty big crowd!
Just a few of the party guests!
(*I'm going to insert a shoutout here to ALL of the people who came to celebrate my birthday with me! You all made the night so much fun, and I can't thank you enough for being so awesome, so THANK YOU!!)
The night started off by hanging out, chatting, and playing "Just Dance" on the Wii. Although I find that game nearly impossible to follow at times, it was actually really fun, and watching other people do the dances is highly entertaining! We ordered a couple pizzas from Papa John's (which were super tasty, as always) and then headed down to the hot tub. We were over the maximum number of people by about 10, but who's counting? It was a really nice night for hot tubbing - slightly cool with mostly clear skies so we could see the stars. After we
had our fair share of hot tubbing, we went back inside to have some super yummy chocolate birthday cake (made by Jake himself) and ice cream. I got the full birthday treatment, complete with an adorable crown (made by Margo), singing, and trick candles. We ended the evening by playing some more fun games on the Wii and hanging out. Everyone was gone shortly after midnight, but Jake and I stayed up until almost 2am talking, which proved to be very therapeutic and enlightening. It's always nice having good conversations with family! Overall, the party was a blast, and I happily crashed on Jake's extremely comfy couch for the night.

The next morning, Saturday, March 28th, I woke up, made some oatmeal, and spent some much needed 1:1 time with God before heading back to Boulder. It was a beautiful warm, sunny morning, and I wouldn't have wanted to spend it any other way. I eventually got around to packing up my things, and then I swung by Starbucks to pick up an iced skinny mocha for the drive home! I stopped at a couple stores along the way, and arrived home around lunch time. It was a gorgeous spring day with temps in the mid 70's, so I decided it was the perfect day for a hike! I haven't done much hiking since I've moved here, so I figured I'd take advantage of it while I can! I decided to go to Hall Ranch near Lyons, CO, which is about 20-30min from my house. I had a really enjoyable 2 hour hike, and I even got a teeny tiny tan! Oh, and I also ran into three llamas at the trail head, so that was a fun surprise! There was only one or two points in my hike where I felt like I was in a scene from the show "I Shouldn't Be Alive", nearly convinced that I was going to look up and be face to face with a hungry mountain lion that preys on curly haired girls named Jane, but...that obviously didn't happen. Phew! Once I got past that tiny irrational (or potentially rational) fear, it was really nice to just spend time with nature, pondering life, sorting through thoughts, and talking with God.

On Sunday, March 29th, I finally got to see my CO church family at Mountain View UMC after being gone for a couple weeks! I attended my usual Sunday school class, which was highly enjoyable as always, and then I attended the Palm Sunday worship service afterwards. I need to work on getting more in the Easter spirit this week!

After church I met up with Korey for a personal training session which was really nice. I've been away from the gym for quite a while for various reasons, so I'm just taking it easy and easing back into it one step at a time. For the most part we took it easy, with the exception of the jump squats at the end...ha! After my gym session, I ran to Starbucks to get my post-workout proffee (as always), and then I headed home to enjoy the rest of the day.

A weekend like this was definitely what I needed! It was a perfect balance of socializing and having some alone time to myself. I look forward to experiencing more fun adventures and mini excursions in the future!

Have a beautiful day!

♥ Jane
