Days #2 & #3: Nebraska → Colorado
I have arrived in Boulder! I rolled in around 6:30 last night (Wed, Oct. 2nd).
My second day of travel was more enjoyable, or just less stressful, than the first. I checked out of the hotel around 11:30am, got some gas, assembled my bagel with peanut butter so it was ready to eat on the go, and I hit the road. At first the driving was similar to the day before; lots of semis and fairly steady traffic, but as I got closer and closer to my destination the traffic died down. It seemed as though the trees and traffic vanished once I crossed over into Colorado. Seriously. Lots of open land and (thankfully) hardly any other cars. You'd pass the occasional car/semi, but otherwise it seemed to be just a lot of nothingness...which I was ok with. There was a bit more cloud cover which was also a plus.
I arrived at my cousin's (Amber and Eric's) home and began hauling all my boxes in. Eric was cooking dinner and Amber was tending to the baby (Torsten), so that gave me some time to begin the unpacking process and get settled in a bit more. After a while we had a delicious dinner; salad with kale from the garden, pear, feta cheese, and a dressing of some sort, and then mashed potatoes covered with stew. The salad was my personal favorite. After quite a while of chatting and a fairly extensive Q&A session, I finally hit the hay.
(Day 3: Thu, Oct. 3rd)
I woke up this morning and did a bit more unpacking, and confirmed that one of the only things I left behind was the power cord for my TV. Quite unfortunate, but it's something I can live without for a few days. Had some cereal for breakfast and got acquainted with Torsten a little bit. He is an adorable little guy. :) A little later I headed out for my first trip into the heart of Boulder. My mission? Target, Chipotle, and Starbucks. After I checked off a few necessities from my list at Target I headed out to find Chipotle. It's definitely more like city driving in Boulder; kind of like a mix between twin cities and Duluth driving. Once I located Chipotle parking was a bit tricky, but I managed to find a spot some .2 miles away and walked from there. After I had some lunch I decided to kill the rest of the hour that I had on my parking tab by walking to Starbucks .3 miles away. It was nice to explore and see the city of bit more. Most of this stuff was on Pearl St., which is a really neat part of Boulder. I still have tons of stuff to discover, and I'm sure Amber and Eric will continue to clue me in on their favorites around the area.
After my shopping excursions I returned home, hung out with Torsten (read some books, bonded, etc.), completed some homework, and had another yummy dinner (leftovers, but still delicious). I came back up to my room, got ready for bed, and also had my first spider encounter...*cue dramatic music*. It wasn't a huge spider or anything, just your typical brown spider, but still a spider nonetheless. I was pretty proud of myself because I killed it using just a kleenex and my own hand. I would typically assemble some heinous device of three books, some paper towels, a shoe, etc., but I didn't have time for that. Even after all that excitement I am still very tired and falling asleep as I speak. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, which is hard to imagine with a post this long, but I will try and blog again tomorrow. My hope is that these posts will become less detailed and more about actual stuff happening.
One last note about stuff happening...it's supposed to snow tonight. Yes, snow. We shall see if this actually happens, and I will report back with the details tomorrow. I hope everyone is doing wonderfully wherever you may be!
