Groundhogs | Exploring | Church | Stores
Happy Sunday, everyone!
I haven't posted in a couple days, but there hasn't been a whole lot of exciting stuff to share. Unless you want to hear about all the food I eat, what time I eat it, what I'm watching on Netflix, etc. But...I'll probably tell you anyways. ;) I will try and keep everything straight by sectioning things off into days.

Lets see here...allll the way back to Friday. On Friday I posted about the snow we got, which melted a little later that day when the sun came back out. A little later on, Amber, Torsten, and I went out for a quick walk. Amber showed me some trails (there are a lot of trails...) and suggested which ones to use. I will probably have to ask her again, because my brain has been on information overload since I've gotten here. We took a a sidewalk with a nice mountain view that went by the Celestial Seasonings tea factory! (*Mental note: take tour soon!). In the big front lawn of the tea factory were groundhogs! I know I should not be so excited over groundhogs (I have mixed feelings about them), but they're pretty funny to just randomly see while you're out walking. I am going to highlight my thought processes while walking this area into two categories: Cool vs. Creepy.
Celestial Seasons tea factory: Cool!
Groundhogs in front of tea factor: Cool!
Finding out Groundhogs can carry the bubonic plague: Cool?......no, no that's actually pretty creepy.
Anyways...they became a little less cute after that. Technically, they can carry fleas that carry the bubonic plague. So...hide yo wife, hide yo kids, and hide yo husbands, because they be infecting er'body up in here. (Only those of you who have seen the infamous Antoine Dodson video will get that last line...) Moving on!
That was most of my Friday. Came back home after that, finished up some homework, and it turned out to be a pretty normal day.

Saturday I went out to find the Anytime Fitness nearby. I met the owner, who was very nice, and he explained that he and his wife run the place. The gym was pretty much dead, which I kind of figured it would be with Boulder being very fitness focused and there being so many fitness places available to choose from. The coolest thing by far was their new Precor AMT's. I will try and post a picture if I can find a decent one online, but the (touch) screen attached to the AMT lets you log into what's called a Preva account. This account lets you track workouts, set goals, and even gives you badges. You can then also watch TV, surf the web, etc. It is pretty fancy! I was impressed to say the least. Although I ended up watching hardly any of the cooking show that was on, because I couldn't stop staring at the mountain view in front of me.
After my workout I walked over to Safeway which is a grocery store. One thing I will say that I LOVE about Boulder is that there are tons more food/grocery options than back home. I could spend hours in a grocery store just writing stuff down that I want to buy later. I bought some basic groceries, got some Starbucks (having a Starbucks everywhere you turn is going to become an issue pretty soon...), and then headed home. Back home I hung out, watched Netflix, did some more homework, and then we all went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant called Efrains, which was pretty good!
Today! Sunday, October 6th, 2013
Well...today has been interesting. I ran some errands this morning and then decided to check out First United Methodist Church in Boulder. I can't say I liked it a whole lot...I just didn't get that homey feel, and hardly any people greeted me. I probably won't be going back to that specific church. There was one specific thing that was said in a responsive section that I did not like, and that was this phrase:
"God of us all, how glad we are that we don't hold you, but that you hold us."
I don't know why this struck a nerve with me, but it did. I think it's because I believe that we do indeed hold God within ourselves; our hearts, our minds, our spirits, etc. Of course he holds us too, but I'm not glad that I don't hold God, I'm glad that I do. Anyways, that ends my church rant for the day. On another note, their piano player (Gerald Holbrook) was phenomenal, and he played a number of different difficult pieces including Nocturne in C-sharp minor and Pas des Amphores.
After church I was intending on going to the gym, but I set out to do more errands first. Went to Bed, Bath, & Beyond and got a stylus for my iPad and a notepad mousepad on sale for about $1, then I headed over to REI to look for a water bottle. REI is a very dangerous place to shop. Everything is pricey, yet you get that "need to have it" feeling. Bad combination. I then headed out to find Einstein Bagels which was .2 miles away, so I walked. I must have passed it, because I ended up wandering into my new all time favorite store: World Market! Oh. My. Gosh. They have EVERY flavor of sugar free coffee syrups you could think of: Pumpkin Pie (which I purchased), White Chocolate, Smores, Black Cherry, White Chocolate, Peppermint, Maple Brown Sugar, and tons more (see picture). They even had a bacon flavored syrup! The only downside is they come in GIANT bottles. But I cant live with that. Otherwise, the store has almost every old school candy, off the wall candy, and unique foods you could think of. They also have stuff for your home too, like decorations, some furniture, etc. It's insane. I could live there. Anyways...my joy of finding this amazing store cannot be put into words, so instead of trying to put it into words, I'll just end this novel here.
All in all, it's been a nice past couple of days. I've gotten out a bit to explore some more, and I will have to get out for another walk soon to take some pictures of mountains and bubonic plague carrying groundhogs. I also need to establish shopping rules/limitations for myself...it could potentially get out of hand with all these food options around here. On a different note, I get to watch Torsten tonight for a few hours, so that will be fun to spend some time with him. :)
I shall write again soon! Hopefully a shorter post next time...in your head it doesn't seem like that much, but when you start writing it down it's a different story. I miss everyone and hope things are going well back home!

P.S. Two more random comments: my blogs background has been acting goofy and not showing up for me...not sure if you can all see it, but I hope you can. The layout is a work in progress. Also, when my posts are this long I don't really proofread, so my grammar is probably horrible. I apologize if it is. Ok, that is all!
