"Lively" Latte, Yoga, Biking

Good evening!

I know I am writing this post later in the day than I usually do, but it's been a few days since my last post and if I don't do it now, the memories will begin to fade!

Boulder Municipal Utility Issues
Sunday I woke up and decided to check out the adult Sunday school class at Mt. View UMC. I arrive and ask which room the adult Sunday school is held in. She stumps me by asking, "Which one are you looking for? There are three of them." ...oh. So I had three options to choose from. The first option was a group that talked about the sermon from the previous week, the second was called "Lively Latte" which discussed current events, and the third option was a group learning about the Old Testament. My gut reaction was to go to the Old Testament class, but the nice lady I was talking to suggested that I try the "Lively Latte" class because she thought I'd like that one best. So she takes me right to the door of the class and when I get there I'm only the third person to arrive. I watch, smile and nod, and introduce myself (I also had a name tag for good measure) as more people come through the door. Once the class started I kind of looked around...and realized I was the youngest person there by about a good 30+ years, the largest age difference being a guesstimated 60+ years. We started off by reading some scripture passages and discussing the topic of faith. I was still doing good at this point and was mostly liking where it was headed. On the table in front of me were numerous newspaper clippings, and I was eying a few of them up, mentally relating the topic of faith to the articles. The scripture reading lasted ten minutes max and we moved on to the next order of business, which was not what I was expecting: "Boulder Municipal Utility Issues". And this is where they lost me. Apparently, this was just a one time thing because voting is right around the corner, but all I can remember now is a lot of numbers, politics, political ideas, money, efficiency, hypothetical issues/scenarios, etc. I will post a picture of the document (which, yes, was discussed in fairly great detail bullet by bullet). I honestly tried to pay attention, tried to focus, tried to smile and nod at the right places, tried to show as much genuine interest as I could muster...but about halfway through the page I was totally gone. This was definitely not my definition of "Lively Latte" conversation. Bless their hearts by all means! I understand that some people do find this stuff interesting, especially because it does concern them, but it just wasn't my cup of joe. At all. After the class many members (somewhat apologetically) said that this isn't how every week really is. What I can walk away from this experience with is an honest to goodness attempt at trying to be interested in political issues, an affirmation of my non-interest in politics, and the idea to try the Old Testament class next week. I will have to re-visit the "Lively Latte" group another time. :)

Amazing Muffin
Monday's recap will be much shorter. I spent my Monday with Torsten which went fairly well. We had a few unhappy moments, but when it comes to babies those can be expected to occur from time to time. We got out for a walk later in the afternoon which was very enjoyable and I got to talk to my mom which was very nice. My absolute favorite part of the day was early in the morning. I know what you must be thinking: "Monday?...Morning?! That's nearly inconceivable!" Well, it's not inconceivable if you got to eat a jumbo homemade cranberry muffin, which I did!! It was amazingly delicious and I savored every bite. Amber and Eric definitely have their muffin making skills down to a science.

After my day with Torsten I decided to go to a yoga class at Anytime Fitness. I got there a little early to do a mini cardio session beforehand, and I really had no idea what to expect with it being my first yoga class ever. It started off great. The instructor (Anne) is awesome, and even gave everyone a very brief foot rub. Then we slowly but surely started changing into different positions. And then we slowly but surely started changing into different and difficult positions. It's safe to say that yoga is definitely NOT easy, but I'm hoping that I can continue to go and improve in every aspect of what it takes to perform yoga much more gracefully than I did. For my first time I guess I didn't do too horribly...but I'm definitely sore today!

Me...walking the bike. Lol.
Today! Tuesday is currently a day off, with Torsten's PT appointment in the morning. After the appointment I had lunch, did some work, and then decided to take a stab at going for a bike ride. Now, back home I'm used to old grandma bikes where you're practically sitting up straight, but the bike that Amber and Eric so kindly set me up with here is completely different. It's more of a road bike, with the curly handlebars and leaning way far forward position. So the game plan I had in my head was to take a nice bike ride down to the self-serve frozen yogurt bar about 1.5 miles from home. Being slightly intimidated by this bike, I walked it to the straightaway of the sidewalk I'd need to take. I stared at the bike thinking "I'm gonna die". I hopped on up and did indeed feel like I may just die. I managed to make it to the end of the sidewalk, but trying to reach the brakes without falling off was another issue all in itself. I shifted my hands alllll the way down to the brakes and managed, with little to no grace, to stop. The seat may be a tad bit too high, because my feet can't quite touch the ground, so dismountin
Frozen Yogurt...yum!
g was no easy feat. I can only imagine that I looked like a four year old just learning to ride their bike for the very first time. Wobbly, uncoordinated, and I must admit my ego was definitely a little crushed. Biking on my bike back home in MN was easy peasy lemon squeezy. I'd hop on that bike and go for ridiculously long bike rides without a doubt or care in my mind. I repeated the walk/ride/walk/ride pattern at the end of every stretch of sidewalk, because the last thing I wanted to happen was to get hit by a car. I ended up turning around before I even got halfway to the frozen yogurt shop because the seat was also just not doing it for me. Once back home I returned the bike back to the garage and turned around to walk to the frozen yogurt shop instead. Yes, it took much longer, but I am much more confident in my walking abilities than I with my road bike riding abilities. Not sure if this style of bike is one that I will just "get used to" or if I may need to look into other bike options instead. (*Side Note: I am extremely grateful for Amber and Eric allowing me to use this bike. My negative experience is 110% on me; I'm sure in the right and capable hands the bike is a dream.)

The past few days have definitely been full of new learning experiences! The rest of the week is Torsten filled all day Wednesday, Thursday, and then Friday night as well. I'm not so sure what the weekend will hold as of right now, but I will be sure to let you know when I find out. :)
